A coalition of 47 business organizations who support independent work opportunities applaud the House Education and the Workforce Committee for passing the Congressional Review Act challenge to the U.S. Department of Labor's final rule on independent contractor status. The final rule is confusing, difficult to apply, and will invite unnecessary litigation and uncertainty for the tens of millions of workers who derive income as independent contractors. Committee passage of H.J.Res. 116 is the first step in ensuring workers can continue to choose independent work and that businesses are afforded clarity around worker classification determinations.
The coalition recently sent a letter to Members of Congress urging them to support the resolution and reject the Department’s misguided rule. The group looks forward to working with lawmakers to support independent work and get H.J.Res. 116 signed into law.
